Approval over-budget, not on schedule, and feeling in chaos? Start all projects with an ERAP

An ERAP summarises the results of a desktop sensitivity assessment and identifies potential environmental sensitivities and values. It delineates the approval program going forward, including the baseline survey information and the type of stakeholder engagement required. This will clarify the works program for your project.

At AES, we have found significant value in developing an ERAP early in the planning phase as it provides you with all the information you need to make appropriate decisions based upon a clear understanding of the project as a whole. Too often we see a fire-fighting / piecemeal approach to the approvals and this results in waste through a large administrative burden, duplicated work effort, wasted time (and budget) and schedule blow-outs.

We follow our four-stage ERAP process to ensure all environmental datasets and legislation is considered. The process includes:

  1. environmental sensitivity analysis

  2. approval investigaton

  3. regulatory approval register

  4. business risk register.

So we know what we need to do. What next?

Our team specialise in environmental approvals, both offshore and onshore. However, this specialisation has meant that we must be very specific in the projects we support.

A list of the approvals we can help with is below.

  • EIS - Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Clth)

  • Part IV - Environmental Protection Act 1986 (Wa)

  • Part V - Clearing Permits - Environmental Protection Act 1986 (Wa)

  • Part V - Works Approvals and Licences - Environmental Protection Act 1986 (Wa)

  • Offshore Project Proposal - Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006 (Clth)

  • Environment Plan and Oil Spill Pollution Emergency Plan - Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006 (Clth)

  • Environment Plan and Oil Spill Pollution Emergency Plan - Petroleum and Geothermal ENergy Resources Act 1967 (Wa)

  • Environment Plan and Oil Spill Pollution Emergency Plan - Petroleum and PIpelines Act 1969 (Wa)

  • Environment Management Plan - Petroleum PIpelines Act 2021 (Vic)

We have developed a process for delivering each of these approvals

Did you know most permits, licenses or approvals require an audit to be completed once a year?

Our team are trained auditors and offer this as a value add service to our clients. Whether we were involved in developing your approvals or not, our audits will identify not only where you have areas of non-conformances but where your operations are achieving great environmental performance. We then proactively work with you to identify practical corrective actions to get you back in compliance where non-compliance is identified. Our team uses the following audit process to ensure that you get the most value for this service:

  1. Develop and agree to an audit Terms of Reference

  2. review your environmental compliance register (and if required update / amend your register)

  3. develop an audit worksheet with questions and documentation to request before the audit to use your time as efficiently as possible

  4. hold an opening meeting

  5. complete the audit

  6. hold a closing meeting

  7. develop the audit report, identify

Compliance reports crept up on you again?

We understand that having to complete yet another report puts a drain on internal resources that are better spent conducting other tasks. our team is experienced in the development of annual audit compliance reports, annual environmental performance reports, and compliance annual reports  (to name a few).

We offer an ongoing service that allows us to proactively complete your reports year-on-year saving you the hassle of duplicating your effort each year of engaging a new consultant, skilling them up about your operation and whom to talk to.

We specialise in Environmental Performance Reports under the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage (Environment) Regulations 2012, Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources (Environment) Regulations 2012, and Petroleum Pipelines (Environment) Regulations 2012.

You dont know what you dont know.

We understand the realm of environmental legislation is complex and can feel daunting to navigate compliance. This is why we have decided to offer an advisory service that allows you access to our collective teams' brain power allowing you to ask questions, and get answers when you need them. Under this arrangement, you can have as much or as little access to us as you want and can encompass a full project lifecycle, a specific stage or be limited for a specific time period.

Don't worry, we have got you covered.  You will neve be without an answer, a plan or a direction again.
